Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to groom my pet?
Grooming rates vary depending on the wieght of your dog, the condition of their coat and overall temperment. Check out our pricing page or give us a call to find out how much your appointment will cost.
Do you tranquilize pets before you bathe or groom them?
We will not tranquilize a pet in order to groom it. Our staff is well trained to handle nervous pets, and treat every pet with tender loving care. If a pet is too agitated to be safely bathed or groomed, our staff will not attempt to force the service on the pet.
Can I stay with my pet while he's being groomed?
Most pets are less fidgety when mommy or daddy isn't around. However, if you feel better staying with your dog, you are welcome to do so. You will not be able to touch your pet while he is being groomed and we ask that you wait in the front waiting area out of view of your pet or he'll think its time to go home and be difficult to finish.
My dog bites and has been turned away by other groomers. Will you be able to groom him?
If your dog has ever bit anyone, please, please let us know. If we feel your dog is likely to bite, we may put a muzzle on him. Sometimes this even calms the dog down. With our tender loving care approach we have made peace with dogs that started out tough and afraid of grooming, but are now some of our dearest clients!
Are appointments required?
Appointments are generally required.
Should I have my pet groomed in the winter?
Yes! Grooming is a year round process. Some people prefer to let their dog’s fur be longer during the winter months. Longer fur has a greater chance of developing mats and tangles. Mats do not allow proper airflow through the coat and this can lead to health problems. Short haired breeds also need attention in the cooler months. Pet skin can become dry and flaky due to a lack of humidity in the colder air. Regular shampooing, conditioning and brushing can help stimulate the natural oils to ease the dryness.
How often do my pets nails need to be trimmed?
Generally speaking, nails need trimming every four weeks.
Is it customary to tip the groomer?
If you are happy with the service you receive, a tip is very much appreciated by the groomer.
At what age should my puppy have his/her first professional groom?
Puppies should be introduced to professional grooming at 8 weeks of age and scheduled for a follow up visit every 4 weeks. This will gradually let your puppy get acquainted with the sights, sounds, smells and procedures.Ask about our maintenance plan.
How often should my dog be groomed?
Frequency of grooming can depend on breed, coat type and length, lifestyle and how much brushing and detangling you do at home between grooming appointments. If your dog has a longer hair style or a coat that tends to get tangled he/she should be professionally groomed every 3-4 weeks. A dog with a short hair style or short coat can be groomed every 4-8 weeks. Our maintenance plan is designed to keep you on an easy and convienant schedule.
